It was in October 2022 that she was elected head of Europe Écologie Les-Verts (EELV), a few months after the setback suffered by Yannick Jadot in the presidential election. More than a year after her induction into the post of national secretary of the green party, Marine Tondelier already has part of her mind turned towards the next elections, in 2027. With a major question: will the left overcome its differences to find a unique solution? candidate?
However, a joint candidacy from the left for the 2027 presidential election is “in preparation” despite the separate Nupes lists for the 2024 European elections, indicated Marine Tondelier in an interview with Le Figaro. “A lot of things are being prepared, including a project and a joint candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. There are a huge number of us on the left and among environmentalists who want that,” declared Marine Tondelier.
“Whatever happens to Europeans, see you at the start of the 2024,” she added. For the next European elections, the different Nupes formations will present separate lists, to the great dismay of La France insoumise which wanted a common left-wing list, as during the 2022 legislative elections.
A joint left-wing candidacy is seen by many as the left’s only hope of winning the 2027 elections, although its contours have yet to be determined.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who has already run for president three times, is for example firmly opposed to a left-wing primary while the communist Fabien Roussel has already indicated that he wants to be a candidate for the Elysée again.
