For the first time ever, the Lord Mayor of Dublin is a member of the Green Party of Ireland. Hazel Chu was elected by her peers on Dublin City Council. She becomes the ninth female Lord Mayor of the city and the first person of colour to hold the title. Chu’s immediate reaction was one of gratitude: “It is an incredible honour and I look forward to serving the citizens of Dublin this coming year. A lot of people to thank for getting me here but first and foremost in my mind are the frontline workers that have worked tirelessly to keep us safe, my fellow Dubliners and lastly my family. Thank you all.” The Green Party of Ireland has been surging in support in recent elections, both nationally and locally.
