KITCHENER, ON – Ontario Greens Deputy Leader and Kitchener Centre MPP Aislinn Clancy has announced a bold five-point plan to address housing affordability, childcare, healthcare, transit, and education in Kitchener. Focused on tackling the city’s renoviction crisis, improving access to primary care, and expanding public transit, Clancy’s plan presents a strong progressive vision for a fairer and more affordable community.

“I’m fighting for a fairer Kitchener,” Clancy said in a statement. “That’s why today I announced my five-point plan for our city. One that will tackle our renoviction crisis, fight for better healthcare, and bring affordable childcare to our city.”

1. Affordable Housing: Protecting Tenants and Controlling Rent

Clancy is calling for stronger tenant protections and immediate action to stop illegal renovictions and bring back real rent control. Her plan would:

• Reinstate real rent control, preventing landlords from imposing massive rent hikes on vacant units.

Stop illegal renovictions, ensuring landlords cannot displace tenants unfairly.

Put a moratorium on above-guideline rent increases (AGIs), protecting renters from excessive cost hikes.

2. Affordable Childcare: Fair Wages for Workers, More Spaces for Families

To address the growing demand for childcare, Clancy’s plan would increase wages for early childhood educators (ECEs) and expand publicly funded childcare spaces. Specifically, it calls for:

Higher wages for childcare workers through a publicly funded wage grid to ensure fair pay.

The creation of 5,000 additional affordable childcare spaces, making childcare more accessible for working families.

3. Fast & Frequent Transit: Investing in Public Transportation

Clancy’s transit policy focuses on making public transit more affordable and reliable while improving connectivity between Kitchener and surrounding areas. Her plan includes:

All-day, two-way GO train service, ensuring better access to intercity transit.

More funding for public transit, improving frequency and affordability.

“We need fast, reliable, and affordable transit,” Clancy’s campaign stated. “People in Kitchener should have better access to public transportation without relying on expensive car travel.”

4. Fixing Healthcare: Expanding Access to Family Doctors

With healthcare access a growing concern, Clancy is advocating for publicly funded primary care clinics to ensure every Kitchener resident has a family doctor.

Her plan would:

Expand public healthcare access, ensuring no one is left without primary care.

Work to eliminate doctor shortages in Kitchener, addressing the lack of family physicians in the community.

“Fixing our broken healthcare system starts with ensuring everyone in Kitchener has a family doctor,”Clancy stated.

5. Investing in Education: More Support for Students and Schools

To strengthen public education, Clancy’s platform calls for increased funding, particularly for special education. Her plan includes:

More funding for special education programs, ensuring students with disabilities get the support they need.

Hiring more educational assistants (EAs) to improve student-to-staff ratios and increase classroom support.

“Education should be fully funded and accessible for every child,” Clancy’s campaign stated. “We need to ensure kids have the resources they need to succeed.”

A Progressive Vision for Kitchener

Clancy’s five-point plan reflects a strong progressive agenda that prioritizes public investment, tenant protections, and expanded social services. By tackling renovictions, fighting for universal healthcare access, and improving public transit, her platform offers a bold alternative to corporate-driven policies that prioritize profits over people.

“I’m proud to continue fighting for exactly that,” Clancy said.
