New walk-in COVID-19 testing center in Auckland’s City Center

On August 24, 2021, the Victoria Street Carpark walk-in testing centre opened with the help of Auckland Central Green MP, Chlöe Swarbrick.

A day before the opening, Swarbrick posted a tweet announcing the opening of the testing centre. She stated “Just down from Albert Park. Open tomorrow from 10:30 am” , adding “Our designated, walk up City Centre COVID-19 testing station will be set-up and open from tomorrow. Kyle Church, producer of New Zealand and International Politics podcast tweeted a picture of the testing centre, calling “Bit staff are lovely and looks well set up. Really great to be able to walk into testing close by. Cheers @_chloeswarbrick for helping to get this set up for those of us in the CBD.”

Greens welcoming the news

The New Zealand Greens welcomed the establishment with a press release on their website. Chlöe Swarbrick stated that the designated walk-in testing center was much needed with the increased demand for testing in the area.

“Auckland’s City Centre is a focal point of the current outbreak, with a large number of places of interest including universities, restaurants and event centers. It’s also home to 40,000 people.”
