Announced July 25th, the Green Party of B.C. has a new leadership candidate, Cam Brewer. This brings the official number of candidates in the race to three, as nominations have closed. The following is from the aspiring leader’s website:
For almost 30 years, Cam has been bringing people together to create environmental, economic, and social justice solutions. He’s a community organizer, lawyer, entrepreneur, accountant, author, and professor.
Cam ran eco-certification programs at the Silva Forest Foundation and the Canada Green Building Council, helped structure the Forest Stewardship Council, and founded the Eco-Lumber Co-op which manufactured and distributed BC sustainable wood products across North America and Europe. He’s been a finance consultant in Germany, a canvasser and Financial Controller for Greenpeace Canada, and Chair of VanCity’s Social Enterprise Committee. He was Executive Director of Smart Growth BC, Founder and principal of a sustainability consulting firm, and Co-Chair of the VanCity Community Foundation.
Cam clerked at the British Columbia Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada, represented sovereign states and foreign investors in New York at the top-ranked international arbitration law firm in the world, and acted pro bono for the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia University. He currently practices environmental and Aboriginal law in Vancouver, teaches environmental law at Simon Fraser University, and is co-author of an upcoming book with Herb Hammond and Sean Markey on restoring ecosystems in cities.
Cam’s partner Lisa is a home educator, former construction project manager, and professional cabinet and furniture maker. They live in Vancouver with their 11-year old daughter.
