After a second term in the European Parliament, the former candidate of Europe Écologie Les Verts (EELV) in the last presidential election, Yannick Jadot, wishes to work in the Senate to “improve the lives of the French”. An announcement made exclusively in the columns of the daily “Le Parisien”.

“I have decided to invest myself more in national politics by strengthening the environmental group in the Senate which is fighting on renewable energies, the constitutionalization of abortion, and obtains victories”, specifies the 55-year-old politician, twice elected MEP EELV since 2009.

“When I see how Macron and his government are in denial about the climate emergency, I want to put my energy into improving national policies to improve the lives of French people,” he said.

The former presidential candidate (4.6%) would like “national policies to better integrate the problems of the Parisian territory: public transport which is in a situation of chaos, housing, adaptation of the city to climate deregulation…”.

He claims to have “no hidden agenda” and does not want to make this post a springboard for the municipal elections in Paris or the regional ones.

Asked about the possibility of a common Nupes candidate for the 2027 presidential election, he underlines that “the lesson of 2022 is that we will need a candidate from environmentalists and the left”. What about his possible candidacy for this election? “It is in the Senate that I want to act”, insists the one who began his commitment to ecology within the NGO Greenpeace.

Absent Thursday from the launch of the States General of Ecology by his party EELV, due to the speech of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the European Parliament, he claims to support the “courageous and essential approach of openness” of the new national secretary Marine Tondelier.

“To have suffered enough during the presidential election, it is obvious that we do not yet have sufficiently powerful tools to relay our message, our mobilizations, our proposals and to convince more widely”, he recognizes.
