The Scottish Greens have called on the government to provide safe housing for all refugees seeking sanctuary in Scotland. In a press release issued today, the party said that it is “absolutely appalling” that asylum seekers are being housed in unsuitable accommodation, and that the government’s inaction is putting them at risk of harm.

“It’s absolutely appalling that people seeking asylum here are being subjected to vicious, racist, far-right attacks. The protests we have seen in Erskine and across the UK have caused a great deal of distress and whipped up the worst kind of hatred and prejudice. The inaction of the Home Office is putting people at risk of serious harm.”

The statement follows a series of far-right protests outside hotels that are housing people seeking asylum. The Scottish Refugee Council has already called on the Home Office to take action against those stirring up hate and causing division in communities.

Maggie Chapman MSP, justice spokesperson for the Scottish Greens, said that having somewhere safe to live is an absolute necessity for all refugees who are rebuilding their lives in Scotland. She condemned the recent protests as “vicious, racist, far-right attacks” that have caused a great deal of distress and whipped up hatred and prejudice.

Chapman also criticized successive Home Secretaries for imposing a hostile environment against migrant communities and stoking anti-immigrant feeling. She said that the recent protests are a direct consequence of the government’s language and policies, and that it is time for the government to take responsibility for its actions.

“They have followed a racist and divisive agenda, stoking anti-immigrant feeling, and putting political gain ahead of the rights and wellbeing of some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.”

The Scottish Greens have called on the government to provide safe, suitable accommodation for all asylum seekers in Scotland. They have also called for an end to the hostile environment policy and for the government to take action against those who seek to stir up hate and division in communities.

The statement has been welcomed by the Scottish Refugee Council, which has been campaigning for better conditions for asylum seekers in Scotland. The council has called on the government to listen to the concerns of asylum seekers and to take action to address them.

The Scottish Green Party’s call for safe housing for asylum seekers has been echoed by other political parties and human rights organizations. They have urged the government to take urgent action to provide safe and suitable accommodation for all refugees seeking sanctuary in Scotland.
