The Green Ecologist Party of Mexico expresses its full support for Senator Juanita Guerra Mena, who has been the target of harassment, attacks, and intimidation attempts after publicly denouncing a series of irregularities allegedly protected by the municipal government of Cuautla, Morelos, and by Mayor Jesús Corona Damián.

We strongly condemn the events that occurred yesterday when, during an official tour convened by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), through Official Document No. 401.3S.4.1.-2025/1353, signed by Anthropologist Víctor Hugo Valencia Valera, Director of the INAH in Morelos, to conduct an inspection tour of Cuautla’s main square, the Zócalo, and the main square of Galeana (Cuautla Avenue). The tour was convened by the institute itself. Officials and citizens in attendance, including Senator Guerra Mena, were physically and verbally assaulted. A complaint has already been filed with the Attorney General’s Office.

It should be noted that among the victims was Councilwoman Anita Sánchez, who was assaulted while reporting the harassment of street vendors to 089. Sánchez was physically assaulted while carrying out her public duties during the tour.

The public allegations and formal complaints filed by Senator Guerra Mena, including possible links to individuals investigated for crimes such as kidnapping, extortion, illegal possession of weapons, damage to public trusts, and extortion in the municipal district, must be treated with absolute seriousness.

We remind you that Cuautla ranks first in the nation in extortion complaints and that there are even reports warning of the operation of criminal groups that extort money inside the Municipal Palace and in the city’s main square, a situation unacceptable in any state governed by the rule of law.

As part of her work, Senator Juanita Guerra has requested an assessment of the risk situation in the municipality of Cuautla, with special attention to the historic center. She has also requested reinforcements of up to 1,200 security personnel throughout the city of Cuautla, Morelos.

In light of these events, we demand that the Morelos State Government and federal authorities guarantee the safety of the public and Senator Juanita Guerra Mena, as well as the public servants who are being harassed for carrying out their duties responsibly. We also ask the authorities to thoroughly investigate the public complaints filed, including possible institutional protection networks for organized crime.

As the Green Party, we reiterate our full support for Senator Juanita Guerra Mena, the most popularly elected representative in the state of Morelos. A woman of strong values and convictions, whose commitment to security, justice, and the fight against corruption has made her a leading figure in ethics.

We reject all forms of political persecution and institutional violence against her. We will not take a step back in the defense of legality, transparency, and public safety.
