Good news from the South Tyrol Parliament: the Green Party’s motion to guarantee fair compensation for people with disabilities undertaking vocational training or placements in sheltered workshops has been adopted.

To date, people with disabilities participating in job integration programs receive a maximum of €492 per month. This amount has remained unchanged since 2016.

“With the adoption of this motion, we are correcting an injustice that has existed for years. Appropriate compensation for work performed during an internship is a right. This must also apply to people with disabilities,” explains Zeno Oberkofler, the motion’s lead signatory.

The adopted motion stipulates a significant increase in compensation. It was co-signed by South Tyrolean People’s Party (SVP) representatives Harald Stauder and Waltraud Deeg.

“Dignity is also demonstrated through work and fair pay. Today we are sending an important signal: Inclusion must not be a mere buzzword, but must be reflected in concrete decisions for justice and respect,” concluded Green Party MPs Zeno Oberkofler, Brigitte Foppa, and Madeleine Rohrer with satisfaction.
