European Greens want justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia

The European Green Party took to social media to commemorate the death of Maltese anti-corruption journalist, Daphne Caruana Galizia, who was assassinated 3 years prior. Caruana Galizia made a career exposing the corruption within the Maltese Government, and many claim that the corrupt Maltese politicians whom she spoke against had a hand in the mishandling of the investigation into her murder.

“Three years have passed since the deadly attack on anti-corruption journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in Malta – and still no justice.
✊ Those responsible for her assassination must be brought to justice, and the safety of journalists and freedom of expression in Malta and Europe must be protected.”

Caruana Galizia’s assassination was seen worldwide as an attack on free speech and free press. Maltese Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat, who had received a plethora of accusations of corruption from Caruana Galizia during his time in office, was widely accused of playing a role in her murder.

Prime Minister Muscat oversaw 1O arrests in connection with her murder. Trials for three of them are expected to start next year.
