EDMONTON – Jordan Wilkie, the newly elected Leader of the Green Party of Alberta, has appointed Evelyn Tanaka of Calgary as the Deputy Leader of the GPA.

Evelyn Tanaka is an environmental activist born and raised in Treaty 7 Moh’kinsstis (Calgary). Her love of nature translated into a BSc in Ecology and an MA in Anthropology/Primatology from the University of Calgary. Evelyn is a leader in the environmental sector and has helped transitioning auto workers and newcomers to Canada find work in the green economy. She has worked in the renewable energy sector with rural communities all over Alberta. She also ran as a Green Party of Canada candidate in the riding of Calgary Shepard in the 2019 federal election.

Jordan Wilkie, when asked about the appointment added “Evelyn has an incredible ability to build bridges between the GPA and the growing population of Albertans that share our Green Values. With Evelyn in Calgary and myself in Edmonton we are able to collectively support different regions of Alberta as the party grows in popularity. This is a very exciting time to represent the GPA as we step up to the plate to win seats in the next election. Evelyn will be a major contributor to that success.”
