As of today, four Italian members of European Parliament(MEP) , Rosa D’Amato, Ignazio Corrao, Eleonora Evi, and Piernicola Pedicini, have joined Green/European Free Alliance group. As of right now, the group’s membership increased to 73 now. On Wednesday, the move by the new members will be approved officially.

We are convinced that we can make a difference in the Greens/EFA group, we share the positions but we also share the values of gender equality, dialogue and team work”.

The four MEPs left the new right Five Star Movement(M5S) because they hold positions that were counter to the official line of the ruling party, including the restructuring of the European Stability System (ESM), an EU fund that 5Star has long been opposed to. Corrao told reporters that they cooperated with the Greens, and 80 to 90% of the time they were on the same side.

In a recent press release, the newly added members commented: “We want to build a Europe that is more open and more transparent. European citizens should take part in the political process. We are convinced that we can make a difference in the Greens/EFA group, we share the positions but we also share the values of gender equality, dialogue and team work”.
