New walk-in COVID-19 testing center in Auckland’s City Center
On August 24, 2021, the Victoria Street Carpark walk-in testing centre opened with the help of Auckland Central Green MP, Chlöe Swarbrick.
A day before the opening, Swarbrick posted a tweet announcing the opening of the testing centre. She stated “Just down from Albert Park. Open tomorrow from 10:30 am” , adding “Our designated, walk up City Centre COVID-19 testing station will be set-up and open from tomorrow. I want to thank the incredible team at NRHCC and ARPHS for being so responsive, professional and efficient!”
Kyle Church, producer of New Zélande and International Politics podcast tweeted a picture of the testing centre, calling “Bit staff are lovely and looks well set up. Really great to be able to walk into testing close by. Cheers @_chloeswarbrick for helping to get this set up for those of us in the CBD.”
Greens welcoming the news
The New Zealand Greens welcomed the establishment with a press release on their website. Chlöe Swarbrick stated that the designated walk-in testing center was much needed with the increased demand for testing in the area.
On behalf of the Nouvelle-Zélande Greens, she thanked Northern Region Health Coordination Centre and City Centre Residents Group.
On the Greens’ website, she stated “I want to thank the Northern Region Health Coordination Centre team for their responsive and swift actions to scope a location and resourcing for this much-needed facility. Our community deeply appreciates our health workforce who are working around the clock to ensure we are all safe and healthy.”
In addition, she said “Shout out to the phenomenal City Centre Residents Group for pushing for this, as they do for all issues and opportunities for our high-density dwellers. The city is our home“.
