The national secretary of Ecologists Marine Tondelier estimated that after the results of the first round of the legislative elections, the page on Macronism had been turned (in reference to people who support French President Emmanuel Macron). For her, there is no longer any possibility of a majority around a Macronist candidate in Matignon. This is how she called on the political parties which have so far supported Emmanuel Macron to do two things:
- avoid the absolute majority of the RN and its allies in the National Assembly;
- avoid the chaos of an ungovernable France.
The leader of the ecologists swears on the victory of the New Popular Front, something she considers feasible and possible even if she recognizes that it will require a lot of work and demands.
“We have to be up to the task, all of us, every second. Because yes, until next Sunday, every second of the campaign will count and must be used wisely, focused on the right subjects and up to the unprecedented situation we are experiencing,” she recalled in her speech published on the party website.
Marine Tondelier underlined the determination of the Ecologists party, in the construction of this New Republican Front to which she says she is dedicating herself to it from now on while placing herself with all the Greens at the entire disposal of all those who wish to do so.
“It would be incomprehensible if some people continue not to differentiate between the left and the extreme right. Centrist politicians will therefore have to be responsible, as their name suggests. We are watching you, we are watching you, we are waiting and all the French with us,” she insisted.
We let you read in the following lines the entire speech of Ms. Marine Tondelier, national secretary of the Ecologists. A speech delivered just after the results of the first round of the legislative elections in France.

Speech by Marine Tondelier following the results of the 1st round of the legislative elections
Dear fellow citizens
Dear friends,
This evening, even if we are all in shock, there is good news: the extremely high participation, after 40 years of decline with each election.
Thank you to those who returned to the polls, whatever they voted, it is good news for democracy!
This evening, there is also extremely worrying news: the National Rally is very, very high, much too high, but the constitution of the New Popular Front has managed to push it back compared to the results of the European elections.
This evening, there is a major political fact: the page on Macronism has turned and there is no longer any possibility of a majority around a Macronist candidate in Matignon.
The political parties which have so far supported Emmanuel Macron have two things to do:
avoid the absolute majority of the RN and its allies in the National Assembly;
avoid the chaos of an ungovernable France.
Tonight, there is hope: the victory of the New Popular Front is possible.
Because it is possible but will require a lot of work and demands, we must be up to the task, all of us, every second. Because yes, until next Sunday, every second of the campaign will count and must be used wisely, focused on the right subjects and commensurate with the unprecedented situation we are experiencing.
The Ecologists, who have been at the heart of the construction of this unit for 3 weeks, will continue to play their part and be responsible for several if necessary.
A NEW ELECTION STARTS THIS EVENING.
The surprise of the days following the dissolution was the advent of a New Popular Front.
The surprise of the next 24 hours must be the construction of a New Republican Front.
We will devote ourselves to it from now on and we are entirely available to anyone who wishes to contribute.
It would be incomprehensible if some people continue not to differentiate between the left and the extreme right.
So we’re going to need centrist politicians to be accountable, as their name suggests. We are watching you, we are waiting for you. And all the French people with us.
Messrs. Macron, Attal, Séjourné, Bayrou, Philippe, Marseille, I have written to you. I expect clear commitments from you, without any procrastination.
As we, Ecologists, have been committed to for several days, you must be very clear, because your clarity will depend, let us all be well aware, of the fact that we wake up, in 8 days with a far-right Prime Minister, or not.
So we’re counting on you:
Withdrawal if you are third in the triangulars.
And if you are not qualified in the second round: call to vote for a candidate who defends republican values.
We will be there, as we always have been, on the left and among environmentalists.
And you ?
This election is in the hands of government supporters. And I’m not just talking about party leaders.
I also wanted to address centrist voters.
You are, I know, humanists, democrats, republicans.
Your place, this week in the campaign and next Sunday at the polls, is at our side: on the side of the New Republican Front.
Long live the New Republican Front, therefore.
A front against climate skepticism, against hatred, against intolerance, against violence, against stigmatization and against segregation.
The front of those who want us to live, in France as elsewhere, side by side and not face to face.
The forehead of those who want us to see each other rather than stare at each other.
This night, this week will be long, very long.
This evening I have a special thought for the 3.3 million French binationals, for the 50% of women in this country, for the racialized people whose concerns I share.
For LGBT people too.
For associations worried about the future of their activities and for civil servants worried about the missions that await them.
We’re going to fight!
No, we will not lower our eyes, nor our heads, nor our arms.
We will fight to improve your daily life and to make your tomorrows possible.
We will fight together.
We will fight and we will win.
We will win because we have no choice.
We will win and then we will appease, protect, repair.
We count on you.
And you will see, you can count on us!
