The Green Party of the United States is warning that Elon Musk’s increasing control over federal government computer systems amounts to a “cyber-coup” that threatens public services and personal privacy. According to a newly released statement, Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) associates are taking over the General Services Administration (GSA) and other critical government agencies, raising concerns about how an unelected billionaire is gaining unchecked authority over key federal functions.

Musk’s Growing Control Over Federal Systems

Green Party leaders are particularly concerned that Musk will soon have control over Social Security and Medicare payment systems—a move they say puts millions of Americans’ financial security at risk. Additionally, they warn that Musk is moving to curtail the work of USAID, an agency that provides humanitarian aid and international development assistance.

“We need to recognize that a behind-the-scenes cyber-coup is taking place, while offering a smokescreen to divert attention from billionaire cronies’ diversion of public funds to their personal fortunes.” — Cassandra Lems, Green Party Co-Chair

Even if Musk does not interfere with government payments directly, he will now have access to the personal information of everyone in the United States, raising serious concerns about privacy, security, and corporate influence over public data.

Lack of Political Resistance

Green Party leaders say that while some in Congress are calling Musk’s takeover a coup, most politicians remain silent or complicit. Representative Pramila Jayapal has already referred to the situation as a coup, but Green Party co-chair Justin Paglino suggests that many Democrats are unwilling to push back against Musk’s influence.

“A few in Congress will call it a coup (Rep. Pramila Jayapal has already done so), but it’s obvious that even most Democrats won’t do anything about it. Some of them are already making nice with the Trump Gang.” — Justin Paglino, Green Party Co-Chair

The Green Party has long opposed corporate control over government functions, warning that both major parties have enabled the privatization of public resources.

Call to Action

In response to these developments, Green Party leaders are calling on Americans to demand that their elected officials block Musk’s increasing control over government systems.

“Americans must demand that their elected representatives do everything in their power to stop Elon Musk — who has not been elected or confirmed to any office — from this outrageous power grab.” — Cassandra Lems

The Green Party’s concerns reflect a broader debate over the role of billionaires in government, the privatization of public services, and the lack of oversight in decisions that grant private entities access to sensitive government functions.

As Musk’s control over federal systems expands, the question remains whether lawmakers will take action—or allow this unprecedented consolidation of power to continue.
