Nikos Christodoulides, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, was elected Sunday, February 12, President of the Republic of Cyprus, this divided island in the eastern Mediterranean.
During his inauguration speech, the new president made the reunification of the country one of his priorities.
This is one of the reasons that motivated his meeting with the leader of the Green Party of Cyprus, Mr. Charalampos Theopemptou. The two personalities agreed to maintain a constructive and permanent dialogue for the well-being of the country.
In a press release issued after the meeting, Christodoulides said his vision for a government of broad social acceptance includes input from the Green Party.
He told Théopemptou that he was ready for constructive cooperation and open to new suggestions from the Greens, especially on the environment.
The two politicians discussed the current issues and the challenges that must be prioritized by the new government, agreeing to maintain the dialogue between them.
It should also be recalled that the Green Party of Cyprus celebrates its 27th anniversary this year. To do this, environmental activists working within this party have initiated a tree planting event which will take place at the fire-stricken village of Melini, in Larnaca, the Green Party announced on Friday.
The tree planting will take place on Saturday 18 at 10.00am.
“The movement has always fought for the greening of Cyprus in general and cities in particular,” the announcement stated.
