Green Movements have been on the rise for the past few years as people were starting to be more aware of the dangers that climate change could cause. People like Greta Thunberg has influenced many around the world to take it in the streets and protests in order for their leaders to listen. Some are trying to take matter in their own hands within the government which happens to be the case in Turkey.
On the 21st of September, the Turkish Green Party (Yesiller Partisi) announced its relaunched as a new political group after applying to the Interior Ministry. They have around 110 founding members. Moreover, The political party first emerged in 1988, but it “dissolved” twice. However, this time, the new Turkish generation is motivated more than ever to acquire important changes. One of the party’s co-spokewoman, Emine Özkan, previously said, “we are the last exit before extinction. Green politics is the only solution to the ecological, economic and political crises.”
Özkan wanted to reassure the Turkish population that their party is not only about ecological and environmental matters. She reminds the population that will take into account Turkey’s other problems which includes social, economic and political factors.

The Yesiller Party wants to bring a Green New Deal on the table. Özkan wrote to the Media Line that “the new deal includes the structural transformation of energy and transportation sectors, increase in energy efficiency at all levels, creation of alternative and green jobs [and] improvement of life standards for all.”
The party will be appealing towards people that are more educated about the environmental issues in Turkey. However, it needs to pass a threshold of 10% which would lead them to play an important in the Parliamentary. For small party like Yesiller Partisi, it can have a huge impact.
