More than 800 members of Ecolo gathered at a General Assembly in Louvain-la-Neuve to elect a new duo of co-presidents. Samuel Cogolati and Marie Lecocq were elected co-presidents of Ecolo. The duo won with 585 votes against 228 for the tandem Marie-Coline Leroy and Gilles Vanden Burre. He succeeds the pair formed by Jean-Marc Nollet and Rajae Maouane who resigned in the wake of the June 9 elections.

“You have sent a very clear signal for popular ecology,” launched Mr. Cogolati after the vote. “You have chosen an ecology which must above all reassure, protect and even enthuse,” he added.
The popular ecology supported by the new duo is intended to be concrete: better insulated housing, sufficient doctors, including in rural areas, healthy and free school canteens, cheaper train journeys, etc. “Yes, it is time to make greener rhyme with less expensive”, underlined the co-president.
The new co-presidents intend to further open the party. “Popular ecology needs everyone. We want to open the doors and windows of the party,” proclaimed Ms. Lecocq.

The new environmental leaders have no time to lose: the next electoral deadline is already looming on October 13, with the municipal and provincial elections. A very brief delay to carry out the necessary introspection following the defeat of June 9.
Since the 2018 municipal elections, the party has nine mayors: six in Wallonia (Amay, Enghien, Fauvillers, Floreffe, Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve and Pecq) and three in the Brussels-Capital Region (Forest, Ixelles and Watermael-Boitsfort).
