According to the Indonesian authorities, the host country, this forum plans to welcome more than 17,000 participants and 30,000 visitors from 172 countries to debate the theme chosen this year which is “Water for shared prosperity”.
After a water purification ceremony on Saturday May 18 and a welcome dinner this Sunday, discussions will get to the heart of the matter this Monday May 20. Organized every three years, this meeting aims to find solutions to improve the security of access to water while 2.2 billion people still do not have access to drinking water. Preserving resources for nature is also a concern.

The World Water Forum is one of the most important water events, bringing together stakeholders from all regions of the world to discuss water management challenges and develop solutions to improve access to water and the management of this vital resource. The discussions and recommendations emerging from the Bali World Water Forum in 2024 will be essential to guide public policies, investments and development initiatives aimed at ensuring effective and equitable water management for all.

The World Water Forum involves various actors. It is jointly organized by the World Water Council and a host city. The Forum is held every three years and has been taking place since 1997. It includes a three-year preparation phase (preparatory phase), a one-week event (event phase) and a presentation of the results (synthesis phase), with permanent support for collective action.

The Forum brings together participants from all levels and fields: politics, multilateral institutions, academia, civil society, private sector, etc. Over the years, the number of Forum participants has grown from a few hundred to tens of thousands of people.

As a reminder, the last World Water Forum in Dakar, organized in May 2022, was acclaimed by 8,000 Participants.
