The Green Alliance Party of Colombia expressed dismay at the violent attack perpetrated against the mayor of Tibú, Richar Claro, and his family while they were driving on the highway that connects Tibú to the district of La Gabarra.
“Armed men intercepted the vehicle in which Richard and his family were traveling, near the La Gabarra neighborhood. Using a fake checkpoint, they tried to stop the car and, having received no response, they fired several times at the vehicle”, we can read on the website of the Green Party of Colombia.
According to the revealed image of the vehicle, it was hit by a bullet in one of the windows. Despite the situation, Colonel Néstor Arévalo, commander of the department’s police, indicated that no deaths or injuries were reported. All escaped unhurt from this incident.

This senior officer said that relevant investigations had been opened to clarify the facts. In addition, authorities are currently working in the region to locate the suspected perpetrators and be able to identify them.
The mayor of Tibú, Richar Claro, victim of this attack, has so far made no statement.
The Green Alliance Party of Colombia has indicated that it regrets this violent act against the mayor and his family, as well as the attacks suffered by other leaders, social and environmental leaders in the country. The Greens ask the National Government to guarantee security in the territories to ensure lasting peace.
