Norway needs a new green government after the elections. It is absolutely necessary to safely bring Norway out of the oil age, reduce emissions, stop the destruction of nature and fight poverty and exclusion.
The world around us is changing rapidly and we are living in a time of political destiny. Trump is leading the world into a dangerous period. At the same time, the far right is growing in Europe. This makes the fight for democracy and freedom of expression more important than ever. The Green Party believes that we do not have Trump in Norway, but we should not be naive. “Many of the ideas he fosters are reflected here. We see right-wing populists who claim to speak for ‘the people’, who denigrate minorities and engage in divide and rule under the guise of freedom of speech,” the Green Party said.

In Norway, the FrP has become the largest right-wing party. For Miljøpartiet De Grønne, MDG for short, cooperation with the FrP is out of the question. A government that depends on the FrP will never be able to achieve the changes needed to ensure the freedom and security of Norwegians today and in the future. MDG claims to fight for responsible climate and nature policy, for a fairer Norway and for a Norway that stands for international cooperation and solidarity. “The FrP stands for the opposite, and when conservatives and liberals engage with Listhaug, we at MDG must conclude that we will not have much to gain on the right,” the party’s website states.

MDG positions itself as a counterweight to the rise of right-wing populism, both in Norway and abroad. “This is the kind of future we want. MDG will fight for societies that leave room for diversity and does not want a Norway that sends asylum seekers to Rwanda. We want a society based on trust and community, not one where polarization can grow and conflicts are resolved by prison sentences for our children.” The Greens want a society that gradually emerges from the age of oil and do not want Trump and Listhaug’s slogan, “drill, baby, drill”, to govern Norwegian climate and industrial policy.
