As part of the Earth Day celebration, the Environmental Commission of the Green Alliance Party convened a group of experts to identify ways to address the water crisis in the country. During this meeting, the Greens committed to promoting environmental projects through people who occupy a place in the community.
In this forum, the participation of several environmental experts was noted such as Carlos Fonseca, teacher and expert in sustainable development management, Sergio Rincón, young climate negotiator and leader in sustainable architecture, and Alejandra Venegas, biologist and director of Colombia Environmental Leadership Corporation. However, Fernando León, a green environmentalist leader and director of the Cronus Foundation with more than 15 years of working with vulnerable communities in Cerros Orientales, participated in the moderation.
Likewise, the community guidelines were presented with the aim of broadening the debate and arriving at effective proposals in the fight against climate change. In this sense, Rodrigo Romero, co-president of the Green Alliance, has given himself the task of coordinating the people who work with communities to carry out environmental projects throughout the national territory.
On the other hand, Jaime Navarro Wolff, Secretary General, said that as a party “we must contribute to ensuring that environmental causes have political meaning”, and highlighted the need to make water a right fundamental.
The main conclusions of this forum were as follows:
- It is a joint task of different sectors (political, social, commercial and citizen) in which it is necessary to promote a cultural change allowing progress in actions to face climate change.
- The need to focus on science and technology, because it is not possible to materialize territorial planning around water without investing in the creation of knowledge.
- The importance of working for sustainable construction and using rainwater wisely.
- Joint work is necessary to take care of ecosystems, the reduction of livestock farming in Colombia is essential and the damage caused to the Amazon is everyone’s problem.
In the same way, the role of the Government is also fundamental in promoting incentives, increasing funding for environmental projects and creating civic culture strategies that help unite all efforts.
