The Green Left Front condemns the decision to extend the house arrest of Radivoje Jovović, an assistant professor and provincial deputy for the Free Citizens Movement, for another 90 days, along with the tightening of the measures. This decision is another example of abuse of the judicial system for the purpose of persecuting political dissenters and serves propaganda efforts to portray protests and their active participants as violent.

Such excessive measures and decisions actually serve to intimidate and discourage all citizens who have been protesting in the streets for more than a year, demanding justice and respect for the law.

At the same time, judges in the service of Aleksandar Vučić’s regime are releasing convicted harassers, beaters and criminals to fill the ranks of Ćaciland. Therefore, today’s decision to extend Jovović’s detention clearly illustrates that the judiciary has been hijacked and is being abused for the political games of the SNS regime and that the laws in Serbia do not apply equally to everyone.

The tightening of measures includes a ban on the use of the internet and telephone, as well as a ban on receiving visits, and it is obvious that the measures are aimed at trying to silence and isolate Radivoje Jovović, because there is no other way to explain these subsequently imposed measures.

We demand that the persecution of all political activists be stopped! Just like on the first day when we raised our voices against the arrest of Jovović, the wiretapping of Ana Oreg, against the persecution of all activists of PSG, Stav, Svića, individuals, students and citizens, we will always stand together with those who are under attack by the criminal regime.

The unjustified and unexplained decision of the hijacked judiciary is part of the criminal regime’s scheme to remain in power.

ZLF demands that Radivoje Jovović be immediately released from custody, and that the fabricated charges against him be dropped.
