The South Tyrolean Green party, Verdi – Grüne – Vërc, has secured a dual victory in the regional Provincial Parliament, passing two motions aimed at improving accessibility and correcting flaws in renewable energy criteria. Championed by Green lawmakers Madeleine Rohrer, Zeno Oberkofler, and Brigitte Foppa, these approved texts align social justice with local environmental goals.

The first proposal, introduced by Green MP Madeleine Rohrer, calls for an immediate review of entry fees at the Merano Thermal Baths (Therme Meran) for individuals with recognized civil disabilities and their caregivers. For Verdi – Grüne – Vërc, affordability is a vital branch of public inclusivity. “Accessibility is not just about physical ramps; it is also about financial fairness. Those who rely on external support should not have to carry extra financial burdens to access regional amenities. Publicly-backed facilities must offer fair conditions for everyone,” Rohrer emphasized.

Fixing Solar Energy Frameworks for 2027

The second approved green initiative, spearheaded by lawmaker Zeno Oberkofler, focuses on public funding for photovoltaic solar panels and battery storage units. Under the current strict rules, households can only qualify for these green energy subsidies if they install a brand-new heat pump at the exact same time. This guideline unfairly disqualifies families who had already taken early initiative by purchasing a clean heat pump years prior.

Verdi – Grüne – Vërc demanded a structural shift, and parliament agreed to update this criteria in time for the 2027 funding guidelines. “It makes no sense to penalize the very people who have already done their part for the climate transition. We must allow families to upgrade their homes step-by-step, without incentivizing the wasteful removal of perfectly functional systems,” Oberkofler explained.

Following the vote, the Verdi – Grüne – Vërc parliamentary group reiterated their long-term commitment to public policies that remain consistent, transparent, and strictly responsive to the genuine everyday needs of the community.
