Developed by Airparif and the Île-de-France Regional Health Agency, this new air quality measurement and forecast tool makes it possible to know pollution rates street by street. Users will therefore be able to obtain information in real time on the concentrations of pollutants in the atmosphere, particularly at the Olympic sites.
The tool could in particular be used above the Olympic sites during the period of the Paris Games to measure air quality but also after the Games.
The idea of the association in charge of monitoring air quality in the region is to make information but also recommendations more accessible in the event of an episode of increased pollution.
With this information, those who wish will be able to avoid certain streets that are too polluted, particularly when practicing a sport. As for the athletes present for the Games, they will know the state of air pollution precisely at their Olympic venue. A determining factor, explains Antoine Trouche, since “air pollution degrades sporting performance, we see this during international competitions”.
Airparif still recommends that the most vulnerable avoid all physical activity this summer in the event of a severe pollution peak.
According to Airparif, this tool “will allow Ile-de-France residents and tourists in particular to anticipate their exposure to air pollution and adapt their behavior accordingly”.
The platform will remain after the Olympic Games in order to “improve over time the information provided to Ile-de-France residents on air pollution”, indicates Airparif, which will produce after the competition “an evaluation of the impact of this major event. magnitude on air quality.
