Broken election promises, backward policies: in an interview with ZDF this summer, Green Party leader Franziska Brantner attacks the federal government. Brantner criticizes the government’s cronyism
It is “so annoying” that they have more money than ever, but they are not using it to tackle the necessary tasks. Brantner accuses the CDU-SPD government of “playing tricks, using climate money to finance gas, and engaging in real cronyism instead of easing the burden on all citizens.”
The CDU is no longer a reliable partner, says Brantner:
Frankly, I’m concerned that the CDU has become the risk factor for this government and no longer stands for stability, and that a CDU member’s word is apparently worthless.
The Green leader tolerates little criticism of her own party. She is “the sensible, clear, tough opposition force” that always has the country in mind, “and yes, we won’t and don’t want to win the competition between the most strident,” she says.
Greens want to “get back” lost voters
Nevertheless, the Greens suffered losses in the federal election. They lost almost half a million voters to the CDU/CSU, and even more to the Left Party, namely 700,000 voters.
They want to “get all the lost voters back,” says Brantner in a summer interview, accusing their political rivals of voter deception:

“I criticize Heidi Reichinnek for the same thing as Friedrich Merz: They both make proposals that they know are unfeasible, that they are not realistic.”
Chancellor Friedrich Merz promises tax cuts without taking on new debt, and Left Party parliamentary group leader Heidi Reichinnek announces “the end of capitalism” to solve the problems.
Greens want more justice for young people
There is indeed a justice gap in the country that could be better closed, for example, with inheritance tax. Young people in particular are affected by the fact that pressing problems are being postponed into the future. They need to be given “a fair perspective” on pensions, for example, Brantner told ZDF:
“And that’s what annoys me so much about this government: that it’s pushing all these issues into the future, putting them off to committees”, said Franziska Brantner, Party Chairwoman Alliance 90/The Greens.
