According to Bonelli, the Meloni administration is the “symbol of a government against the future.” By prioritizing gas interests over green innovation, the government is forcing families and businesses to pay the price for its inertia. The Green deputy argues that Italy’s current energy framework is outdated and dangerously dependent on international gas markets.
The Green Alternative: A €85 Billion Renewables Leap
Europa Verde is calling for a massive shift in national strategy, proposing a comprehensive plan to reclaim energy sovereignty:
- Investment: A €85 billion fund to install 60 GW of new renewable energy capacity.
- Gas Reduction: This move would cut gas consumption by 15 billion cubic meters—equal to Italy’s total imports from the U.S. and Qatar combined.
- Phasing Out Coal: Shifting away from coal units toward a modern, innovative grid.
A Call for Decisive Action
Bonelli urged the government to step aside or radically change course, criticizing its alignment with “warmongering policies” and its failure to address the climate crisis. For the Greens, the only way to lower energy costs and prevent economic decline is to accelerate the transition to clean energy and end the protection of fossil fuel lobbyists.
