Last Sunday in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Green Party members re-elected Manuel Muñoz Cano as party leader. In a festive atmosphere, more than 1,500 members of parliament were present to re-elect him after just over four years in office.

Manuel Muñoz highlighted the unprecedented growth the party has experienced in the last four years, increasing from around 25,000 votes in 2021 to nearly 200,000 in the last elections; not to mention the almost 30,000 new members in the state in just six months. “You are the true architects of this new stage for our party,” he said, addressing the members, “and we will work tirelessly to make Tamaulipas the Green stronghold of Northeast Mexico.”

Senator Maki Ortiz, Federal Representative Casandra de los Santos, National Executive Committee representative Edgar Salvatierra, and the Green Party leader in San Luis Potosí, Nacho Segura, were present at the event, along with municipal coordinators, trustees, council members, and the State Executive Committee.

The Green Party has been a key player in the Mexican political landscape for the last few decades, playing an increasingly prominent role. Muñoz Cano emphasized the party’s support for Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s first female President, a woman with a strong environmental commitment. He also highlighted the Green Party’s support for Governor Américo Villarreal in his 2021 gubernatorial campaign and affirmed that they will continue working with him to ensure a better future for Tamaulipas.

He stated that the Green Party is an ally of good governance, of those who work for the people, “but we will not be allies of those who fail the people, of the corrupt, of bad governments; the Green Party is with the people!” he emphasized. “No more impositions; the Green Party’s candidates will be women and men who are Green at heart,” he concluded.
