Ecologist activists gathered in Pantin this Saturday, April 26, to acknowledge Marine Tondelier’s re-election as party leader. The national secretary took advantage of the event to look ahead to upcoming elections, particularly the presidential election, for which she advocates for “a regional primary.”

“Ecology strikes back!” Environmental activists gathered this Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Cité Fertile in Pantin for the party congress. The event acknowledged Marine Tondelier’s re-election as leader of the movement. Despite internal criticism, the woman in the green jacket won the first round with 73% of the vote, beating her three rivals. It was therefore time for major political and strategic directions on Saturday, before a convention on Sunday dedicated to the 2026 municipal elections, which will see the Greens defend many of the mayoral seats won in 2020 (Lyon, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, etc.).

While the municipal elections should not be “jump-started” before the presidential election, the national secretary devoted a large part of her speech to the 2027 election. With a “strategic line,” “anti-fascism,” in the name of which, she insisted, “we will not choose” between the various components of the left, with the LFI and the Socialist Party at either end.

“Enough with the own goals!” “Let’s reserve our arrows and attacks for our real political adversaries!” she declared, because “there’s no such thing as an irreconcilable left.”

2027 or the “Funnel Theorem”

In what context? Marine Tondelier presented her “funnel theorem.” Namely, not starting with the nomination of the candidate.

The “program” first, before a possible primary, which “is not her preference.” But if it is to be imposed, it must be “as open as possible.” And above all, she proposed to her party, as to the rest of the left, it must be preceded by a “territorial primary.”

The Greens will hold their summer conferences in Strasbourg and will organize their third “Green Rurality University” in the fall, which will be preceded, in September, by “the first Green University of working-class neighborhoods.”

Most of the left-wing parties were represented on Saturday at the Cité Fertile, including Nantes Mayor Johanna Rolland, a supporter of Olivier Faure, whom Ms. Tondelier has said she hopes will be reappointed as leader of the Socialist Party, even though he now advocates a “platform” of the “non-Mélenchonist left”.
