This is a revolution for mobility in Scotland. Building on the 250 million free journeys already made by young people thanks to their initiative, the Scottish Greens now intend to extend this policy to the entire population. For Ross Greer, this is not just an environmental measure, but a powerful lever for purchasing power and equal opportunities.
Ending 40 Years of Privatization
The Greens’ plan goes beyond free public transport; it aims for a complete takeover of the public service. Ross Greer denounced the “failed experiment” of privatization, pledging to return the bus network to public control.
“We have proven that this works with young people, opening doors to education and employment. It’s time every Scot benefited,” he told party members.
An ethical contrast with the opposition
The party also used this announcement to criticize the Scottish Labour Party. The Greens denounced the influence of the owners of the private company McGills on Labour, emphasizing that their vision remains free from any private financial interest:
- Funding: Increased taxes on large corporations and high earners.
- Independence: Refusal of donations from private transport giants.
- Objective: Simplifying citizens’ lives while decarbonizing travel.
With this announcement, the Scottish Greens are positioning themselves as the party of radical social transformation and climate justice.
