The National Executive Committee of the Green Party of Mexico condemned the assassination of Guadalupe Urban Ceballos, city councilor for the municipality of San Juan Cacahuatepec, in the state of Oaxaca, in an act of violence, the party said in a statement.

While expressing their solidarity with her family, friends, colleagues, and the entire community of San Juan Cacahuatepec, they demanded that justice be served for this irreparable loss. The city councilwoman was shot dead Thursday morning as she left her home in what is considered a targeted attack. Below, we read the statement from the Mexican Green Party demanding immediate action following the assassination of Guadalupe Urban.

GREEN PARTY DEMANDS IMMEDIATE ACTION IN CRIME AGAINST GUADALUPE URBAN

The National Executive Committee of the Green Party of Mexico deeply regrets and strongly condemns the murder of Guadalupe Urban Ceballos, a councilwoman for this political party in the municipality of San Juan Cacahuatepec, Oaxaca. This act of violence has outraged and saddened our organization.

We express our solidarity with her family, friends, colleagues, and the entire community of San Juan Cacahuatepec during this time of grief, and we demand justice for this irreparable loss.

The National Executive Committee makes a strong and firm appeal to the competent authorities to act with the utmost speed, determination, and transparency in the investigation of this deplorable crime, in order to clarify the facts, identify those responsible, and ensure they face the penalties established by law.

Furthermore, we reiterate our commitment to the safety and peace of the citizenry, as well as to the protection of all those who hold public office. No one who works in service to their community should live under threat or suffer attacks that limit their work.

We condemn any manifestation of violence that threatens life, democracy, and social harmony.

As a reminder, Guadalupe Urban, the councilwoman from San Juan Cacahuatepec, was shot and killed in an armed attack on the San Antonio Ocotlán highway last week. The incident was reported by witnesses who discovered a body on the road leading to San Antonio, prompting authorities to activate emergency response protocols. The state attorney general’s office indicated that it has identified two hypotheses regarding this crime.
