The US attack on Venezuela, which led to the capture of Nicolás Maduro, cannot be ignored. Leaders and political figures around the world have been quick to react to and comment on the US action. For the Irish Greens, the most urgent humanitarian issue is the well-being of the Venezuelan people and the need to protect them from the violence and unrest that could arise in response to US actions.
“We call on the EU and the UN to use all diplomatic channels to negotiate a peaceful solution and protect the population, resources, and democracy,” reads a message published on the Green Party’s website. The Greens demand respect for multilateral institutions and processes. “While the United States has chosen to ignore them, it is essential that the rest of the world support and strengthen them.”
