Representatives of the smaller parliamentary and extra-parliamentary parties have been discussing possible cooperation for a long time and formalized it today. The letter of intent for pre-election cooperation was signed today by the coordinator of the Left, Asta Vrečko, and the two co-chairs of Vesna, Urša Zgojznik and Uroš Macerl.
The parties have placed six principles at the forefront of the alliance: a welfare state, green policy, foreign and peace policy, zero tolerance for corruption, a focus on local environments, and the power of the community. “The joint appearance is based on our shared values and worldviews,” Vrečko emphasized.
What does the signed letter of intent stipulate?
By signing the letter of intent, Levica and Vesna are agreeing on a joint appearance in the national assembly elections next year. The parties will prepare a more detailed framework for cooperation, which will determine the manner of joint appearance in the elections, the division of responsibilities, the rules of cooperation during and after the election campaign, and an agreement on pre- and post-election cooperation.

Overcoming the narcissism of small differences
“It should be emphasized that today is not just a political agreement between two parties, but an expression of the belief that we must cooperate for the sake of the future,” emphasized Zgojznik. In her opinion, the signing of the letter of intent is a reflection of understanding the current situation. “A policy that today does not show understanding of the future of the planet, the future of young people, the future of vulnerable groups, including safety and health, will be responsible for people losing hope tomorrow,” she said.
Vesna is also convinced that the talks on cooperation have yielded results because they have managed to overcome what often remains unconquered in politics, which is to overcome the narcissism of small differences. “What may have been a threat to us at the beginning, we have realized is our opportunity to work better together,” Macerl emphasized. He asserted that they are building a credible story that will build the green left coalition of the future in the long run.
