
“Preserving green spaces is not just about protecting water resources, but also represents an effective response to climate change and a way to improve the quality of urban life,” Deputy Minister Urszula Zielińska said at the “Preserving Green Spaces” conference, held in Gdańsk in early June.
Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Urszula Zielińska presented the ministry’s activities for adaptation to climate change and cooperation with local governments. She also spoke about how national and EU climate policy supports green retention.

In her speech, Deputy Minister Zielińska emphasized the scale of the climate challenges faced by Poland and Europe, pointing to record high temperatures in 2024 and the rising costs of extreme weather events. She also presented key elements of national and EU adaptation policy, including new regulations on the restoration of natural resources and support for cities under the FEnIKS and Eastern Poland programmes.

The Ministry of Climate and Environment continues to cooperate with local governments, offering advisory, training and financial support for cities developing Municipal Adaptation Plans. As part of the Klimada 3.0 project, work is also underway on a new climate risk assessment and an update of the atlas of the effects of extreme phenomena.
