PAN spokesperson Inês Sousa Real announced that she will file a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office against a man who revealed on the Terra Nossa program, presented by César Mourão on SIC, that he amputated the paw of a dog that was “very fast”.

The party leader highlighted in a video published on social media that this action “causes great suffering and agony to the animal” and also warned that she will contact SIC to prevent future trivialization of animal violence, “punishable with a prison sentence of up to two years”.

The man’s story came up in a conversation with comedian César Mourão, who was recording the first episode of the ninth season of the series in São Pedro do Sul. “[The dog] was really fast, so I cut off his paw,” she began. Faced with the presenter’s laughter, he continued: “I cut one of his so he would run less after the partridge.”

After the owner explained that the dog helped hunt partridges, César Mourão questioned whether it wouldn’t be useful, in this case, to “run fast”. The man replied that he did not, because the animal scared away the partridges, which got up “early”, making it impossible for the hunter to reach them.

“I warned [the dog]: ‘Look, I’ll cut off your paw’”, he recalled. Despite the comedian’s outburst — “poor dog,” he said — the man insists: “my friend, these are lives.” The program generated outrage on social media and reached the party led by Inês Sousa Real, who quickly expressed her intention to see the alleged aggressor criminally punished.
“We received this complaint about a video circulating on social media of a guy who appears on César Mourão’s show as having mistreated a dog. He amputated its paw, which causes great suffering and agony to the animal. Mistreatment of animals is a crime in Portugal,” said the PAN’s only deputy.

“Having proven the facts he confessed”, Inês Sousa Real wants this man to be identified, charged and convicted. He asks that any pets he may have be removed, in addition to the mutilated dog. “It makes no sense for them to continue with the alleged abuser.”

The political leader said she will contact SIC, “because even though it is an entertainment program, laughter cannot trivialize cruelty against animals.”
